The Blue and the Grey

It is the first of October, and after a cold snap, a preview of things to come, the weather has turned into a classic Indian Summer. However it is not to last.  By this weekend the nights are supposed to get down to 28 degrees F.  I put heat tape on just in case.  We only have 10 more days here.  The rig is washed and waxed and will be ready to go once the oil gets changed and the entire rig is given its pre-trip check.

Kit Carson RV Park is looking like a ghost town.  Blue and grey tarps cover many RVs.  Patios with flimsy aluminum roofs have been strengthened with 2X4s to support the coming snow load.  Squirrels are frantically digging holes in the ground, I presume to bury nuts.  But all I see are holes, as though they start digging and change their mind and go for another spot.  They had better decide pretty soon.

There aren't many of our little group left here, six out of about 12 that we normally hang with. Two left today and two more will leave this week. For a change we may be the very last to leave this year.

Our very first stop, which we added a few weeks ago, is supposed to be the Petrified Forest.  The government shutdown, if it continues, will ruin that plan, as well as our planned stop at Carlsbad Caverns. Such foolishness.  We may never come this way again and we will regret having missed this opportunity especially since both NPs are on the way to where we are going anyway. It also means we won't be spending time or money in the RV parks and restaurants that service those areas.
