Meet The Suitcase

Wednesday, February 19,2014

It's been a busy few days since we arrived outside of Charleston, SC. We did a food tour on Monday, which I hope to get to writing about soon. Yesterday we drove up to Columbia to look at, drive, and make a down payment on another RV. Seriously? Are you kidding? No, unfortunately I'm not. Meet The Suitcase:

That's what I'm currently calling it, because it will hold about as much as one. It is a 2007 Leisure Travel Serenity (around here known as the Senility). It is a 24" motor home built on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis. We will be the third owner. So, let me make some sense of this. We are trading in a perfectly good, almost new, luxuriously spacious Monaco Vesta for a 7 year old souped up delivery van. Peg found this one, and it was close by and priced fairly (not cheap, just fair). She argued that we were going to do this anyway within 3 months, why not do it now? Why not indeed.

There are advantages. It will be cheaper to run, and Peg can drive it. It will fit in friends and family driveways. It will force us to live a more Zen like life, casting off the shackles of material things, like clothing and furniture. It will bring us closer together. Please remove all sharp objects from within easy reach.

Now for the logistics. The gentleman we are buying from is really sweet and is willing to work with us in terms of timing the purchase and delivery. He will store it until we are ready. We hope to have this all done by March 9, no later than March 15. We need to find someplace to put the Vesta up for sale, most likely a dealer in Charlotte, NC. Phone calls tomorrow. Our seller, Bill, has also promised to call around to his contacts to see if anyone can help with a sale. We plan to drive both rigs up to my sister in Denver, NC just outside of Charlotte. There we will empty the Vesta, put stuff in The Suitcase and the rest of the stuff in her garage, for who knows how long.

What fun.
