Boca Chica
Boca Chica State Park is supposed to be here. It isn't. It doesn't exist. Here is what Wikipedia says:
"Boca Chica State Park is a Texas state park located in the Boca Chica Subdelta of the Rio Grande near Brownsville in southeastern Cameron County, Texas in the United States. The park was acquired and opened in May 1994."
Here is where it's supposed to be: Red dot at the tip of Texas.
We drove 115 miles today to find the state park. When we were in Austin several years ago there was a huge map in the Capitol building showing all the Texas State Parks. The pin for Boca Chica became sort of a talisman. Boca Chica was fun to say, and we were going to be able to say we'd been there. Plus, Peg wanted a cap that said Boca Chica on it.
Not surprisingly, Garmin and Google gave us the run around trying to find it. We ended up in Port Isabel, where there is a light house:
That should have been a clue. On the way back from the beach we had to stop at a Border Patrol station. We asked the officers where Boca Chica State Park was. They looked at each other and said they had never heard of it. Still, it was an entertaining day. But Peg never got her hat.
