Rain, pigs, and more rain

A little bit of rain

We spent another day in an RV repair place, this one is in Buda (pronounce b-YOU-da). Nice folks, as most around here are, but still a budget buster. On the plus side, the slide is working, and the extra space is a joy. We plan to stress the slide by putting it in and out daily. If it is going to break we want it to do so before we leave. When we leave we'll stop there one more time for them to replace the step motor, which itself is brand new but broken. Don't ever buy an RV if you aren't prepared to deal with the constant maintenance and repairs. As the service adviser said "It isn't NASA, it's RVs. They build 'em just good enough." We got lucky with the weather. The evening we got back to our park was the beginning of the torrential rain and flooding which made national news. More is supposed to come next week just as we're getting ready to leave.

Pigs and goats, Oh My!

We noticed pigs across the street from the RV park. It turns out there is a small farm over there. One of the nice things about Austin, and a lot of Texas that I've seen, is that you can have a good sized city and then very close by the area suddenly turns rural.

This baby found me very interesting

We woke to an invasion of ants a few mornings ago. There had been a lot of rain and that brings them out. We chased them around the rig all morning until I had a chance to get some spray. I read up on ways to deal with them, from corn meal to borax and talc. I prefer petroleum distillates in a spray can, which I applied liberally to them. Over the next couple of days we would find a few strays. I hope the ones we missed will like living in Florida.

Peg put a lot of work (most of this morning) scheduling our trip from here to Florida. It's tougher than you might think to balance a reasonable daily drive, both mileage and hours, with places to stay for the night that are either free or keep within some kind of budget. Here is a map of our planned itinerary. We're looking forward to Lafayette. The area is the home of crayfish etouffee, zydeco and drive-through daiquiri huts. All of which are on the list.Oh, and boudin. Never had one. Here is our map.

Suggestions for "don't miss" along the way are appreciated. Looking forward to white sand beaches.
